Iran is one of the only countries in the world which has the complete four seasons .The land whose every inch needs deep evaluation. Its north is covered with evergreen forests and a beautiful lake with moderate climate, its south is led to the Persian Gulf, with hot and humid climate, beautiful and attractive palm trees, its east with a hot desert and running sand, with its nights full of stars and the west of this vast land with mountains high in the sky, attracts the attention of every visitor. A number of fruits have originated in Iran, including Persian walnuts, musk melons, limes, and pomegranates, Apple, Apricot, Grape, Fig, Citron, and many more.
The country is blessed with a variety of favourable meteorological conditions suitable for fruit production. The northern seaside lands of the Caspian Sea, and the country supplies finest conditions for citrus production. Iran ranks 1st in the world in the production of pomegranates, 2nd in dates, 3rd in figs, 3rd in cherries, 7th in grapes, and 7th in oranges. Kiwifruit production, although a relatively new activity in this part of the world, has grown increasing importance in last few years and the Iranian kiwifruit promises to become a great export item of the agricultural sector of the country.
Agricultural exports stood at $1.2 billion in 2004-5 and $2.6 billion in 2007-8. Major agricultural exports include fresh and dried fruits, nuts, animal hides, processed foods, caviare and spices. Pistachio, raisins, dates and saffron are the first four export products, from the viewpoint of value. Close to 8 million tons of agricultural products are exported annually (2008). But according to the Central Bank of Iran, only 3.2 million tons of "agricultural products" were exported in 2008 with a total value of $3.2 billion "which showed a 6.1 percent increase over the previous year". Agricultural and food stuff exports in years 2012-13 ending 21 March stood at $5.2 billion.During years 2013-14 ending 21st of March agricultural and food stuff exports increased by 27 percent, standing at $6.6 billion.View full details
